How to Install Butterfly Weft Hair Extensions: A Complete Guide for Hair Stylists& Hair Salon - BetterHairExtensions

Butterfly Weft Extensions are revolutionizing the hair salon industry by combining the volume of traditional wefts with the seamless integration of modern technology. As a hybrid innovation, Butterfly Weft offers clients a faster, more flexible, and more natural-looking extension solution—perfect for those who desire length, fullness, and all-day comfort.

In this complete guide, we’ll walk you through everything you need to know to professionally install Butterfly Weft Extensions, including key techniques, tools, and expert tips. Whether you’re a seasoned stylist or a personal hair extension user, this step-by-step tutorial will help you install Butterfly Weft Extensions with confidence and precision.

What Are Butterfly Weft Hair Extensions?

Butterfly Extensions are ultra-thin, flexible, and fully customizable wefts developed by Better Hair Factory. Designed for both comfort and versatility, they can be cut anywhere without unraveling, allowing for effortless customization based on head shape, hair density, or desired style.

Unlike traditional hand-tied or machine-tied wefts, Butterfly Extensions contain no return hair (the short flyaway hairs on the back of most wefts), resulting in a tangle-free, lightweight, and smooth experience for the client. Their flat construction allows for maximum volume with minimal bulk, making them ideal for clients with fine hair or those seeking a seamless, natural blend.

Traditional hair extensions can be time-consuming and require specialized techniques. In contrast, Butterfly Wefts are faster and easier to install, reducing stylist fatigue while increasing client turnover in the salon. They address common pain points like bulky installations, tangling, and limited cut flexibility.

Both our XO Butterfly Weft and the newly launched Injection Butterfly Weft are designed to be installed using microbeads, eliminating the need for adhesives. This means:

No sticky glue residue like with Tape-In Extensions

Easier and cleaner reinstallation or maintenance

Scalp-friendly and ideal for clients with sensitive skin

Whether you're a stylist looking to upgrade your services or a salon owner seeking the latest in luxury hair extensions, Butterfly Extensions offers a high-performance, client-approved solution that blends innovation with professional-grade quality.

The detailed installation process of Butterfly Weft is as follows:

Step 1: Consultation & Color Matching

Discuss the client’s goals, assess their hair health, and match the Butterfly Weft to their hair color and texture. Determine how many grams are needed based on the desired volume and length.

At Better Hair, we offer over 50 expertly crafted shades to meet the diverse needs of our clients. 20 popular colors are readily available in stock on our website for immediate purchase. For professional salons and stylists, we also provide exclusive access to 30 additional customized shades, curated specifically for advanced color blending and precision matching.

Step 2: Section the Hair

Depending on the client’s hair density, you’ll typically need 2 Butterfly Wefts to achieve a natural, voluminous effect. For clients who want extra thickness and fullness, using 3 wefts is ideal.

Begin by creating a clean horizontal parting where the weft will be installed—typically starting at the nape of the neck and moving upward in layers. Secure the remaining hair out of the way using clips to keep your working area neat and manageable.

Why This Step Matters:

Proper sectioning ensures that the weft is installed close to the scalp and securely anchored, reducing the risk of slipping, sagging, or shifting. A well-placed foundation helps the Butterfly Weft lay flat against the head, creating a natural, undetectable finish while ensuring the installation is both durable and comfortable for long-term wear.

Step 3: Measure and Cut the Weft

One of the standout advantages of Butterfly Weft Extensions is their cut-friendly design—they can be trimmed to any length without shedding or unraveling.

Start by measuring the section of hair where the weft will be placed. Our standard weft width is 33 cm (approximately 13 inches), which is specifically designed to cover half the head circumference, from temple to temple. This makes it an ideal base length for most installations.

Thanks to the sealed edge construction, stylists can confidently cut the weft to fit any head shape or section width without compromising the integrity of the extension. For clients with smaller or larger heads, feel free to trim or stack wefts as needed to create a seamless, fuller look.

Step 4: Install the Butterfly Weft Using Beads

Unlike traditional sew-in methods, Butterfly Wefts are installed with beads, making the process faster, cleaner, and more comfortable for clients. Follow these detailed steps to ensure a secure and professional installation:

Distribution Step 1: Position the Weft
Lay the Butterfly Weft flat across the pre-sectioned layer of hair. Use steel clips to temporarily secure both ends of the weft in place—this prevents shifting or sagging during installation and ensures even alignment.

Distribution Step 2: Pull Through Hair with a Crochet Hook
Using a crochet hook, gently pull a small strand of natural hair through each pre-punched hole along the weft’s track.

Important: Avoid pulling out strands that are too thin. Hair sections that are too small may not provide enough support, leading to tension or discomfort for the client. Aim for small but stable sections that offer secure anchoring.

Distribution Step 3: Apply Beads and Clamp
Take the pulled-through strand and pair it with a corresponding strand from below the weft. Slide a color-matched microbead through both strands, then securely clamp it using pliers. Repeat this process for each hole along the weft track, ensuring even spacing and tight placement.

Pro Tip: Use silicone-lined beads for added grip and scalp protection, especially for clients with fine or sensitive hair.

Installation Tip: Secure End Points First
When installing the Butterfly Weft with beads, it’s recommended to start by securing only one strand of hair with a bead at both the first and last hole of the weft before continuing with the rest of the row.

 Why This Matters:
If you use two strands of hair to fix both sides at the beginning, the inward pulling force may shift the entire weft, causing it to become misaligned or warped. This can result in a poor fit and discomfort for the client. Securing the edges with just one strand initially stabilizes the weft, keeping it flat and balanced. You can then proceed with the full two-strand bead method for the rest of the row without distorting the shape.

This small adjustment ensures the Butterfly Weft lays evenly across the scalp, enhancing both comfort and longevity of the wear.

After the XO Butterfly Wefts Installation Is Complete

Once the Butterfly Weft installation is finished, take a few final steps to ensure a seamless, long-lasting result and a great client experience:

 1. Blend the Hair
Carefully blend the client’s natural hair with the extensions using thinning shears or blending scissors if needed. You can also use heat tools to curl or straighten the hair for a polished look. This helps the extensions flow naturally with the client’s own hair.

 2. Check for Comfort
Gently run your fingers along the weft track to ensure it’s lying flat and there are no tight spots or pinching areas. Ask the client if they feel any pulling or discomfort. A good installation should feel secure, but not tight.
